Loft Insulation Assessment & Installation Guide

Assessment:

The assessor will:

  • Check your loft is suitable for loft insulation
  • Require access to your loft
  • Identify if fixed boarding or personal belongings in the loft will have any implications on the installation process and request these be removed prior to the installation
  • Provide you with a copy of the completed survey outlining the nature of the work to be undertaken, any necessary additional chargeable works and the total cost payable by you

Installation:

Customer Checklist:

  • Ensure your driveway is clear for our installation van
  • Clear all personal belongings and boarding from your loft as agreed with your assessor
  • Upon completion check premises and sign a form to confirm the work has been carried out to your satisfaction

Customer information:

  • Loft insulation takes 1 – 3 hours to install
  • The installers will require access to your loft. Prior to installation it is your responsibility to remove any stored personal belongings from your loft. The installer may be able to arrange to have these removed at an additional cost payable by you but this service is not offered by all installation companies and varies from installer to installer
  • The mineral wool insulation material is fully approved and non-hazardous to your health. Sustainably manafactured materials are available at an additional cost upon prior request with your assessor and by arrangement with your installer
  • As floor joists will be covered by the insulation it is recommended you use a crawl board to access the loft in the future as walking could be dangerous
  • Upon completion of the works we would recommend that you do not store items in your loft space as this can reduce the efficiency of the insulation
  • Any recessed lighting, high voltage cables or transformers in the loft space will not be covered by insulation to ensure they do not overheat loft insulation installed

Installer laying insulation in loftStep 1

The installers will lay the new insulation and where necessary over the top of any existing insulation

Step 2

The insulation will be laid to allow a gap up to the eaves in order to allow ventilation into the roof space. If additional ventilation is required the installers will discuss the various options with you.

Step 3

Cold water tanks and water pipes will be checked by the installers to ensure that they meet current insulation requirements. Where necessary additional tank and pipe insulation will be fitted.

Step 4

The back of the loft hatch will be insulated up to the same depth as the loft insulation. The hatch insulation will be covered in plastic and secured to the hatch. Where possible, draught proofing will be fitted around the edge of the loft hatch

Step 5

Once all of the work is complete the installers will remove any surplus debris
